Coppa Italia Serie C 2024/25: Triestina 0-1 Trento

The new season officially kicked off with Triestina and Trento clashing in the first round of the Coppa Italia Serie C. Both teams lined up in similar formations, though they were missing several key players, on a scorching afternoon in Trieste.

Unione started the match energetically, but it was the visitors who created the first chance. In the 2nd minute, Sipos headed weakly from a good position after a fine cross from Disanto on the left, making it an easy save for Roos. Triestina responded immediately through Voca, who attempted a lob from 20 meters out in the 3rd minute, with the ball just narrowly missing the target. The home side came close to taking the lead in quick succession in the 15th minute. First, El Azrak saw his beautifully struck free-kick from mid-range tipped out of the top corner by Tommasi. Then, Germano tested the visiting ‘keeper from over 30 meters with another challenging effort.

Trento responded halfway into the first half, with Sipos again heading on target from another Disanto cross, forcing a save from Roos. On the follow-up, a sharp shot from the edge of the box by Giannotti was deflected by a defender, resulting in a corner. In the last 15 minutes of the half, both teams had a couple of interesting opportunities that they failed to capitalize on, keeping the match balanced as they headed to the locker rooms with a goalless draw.

The second half was uneventful, partly due to the intense heat. The visitors attempted a couple of long-range shots that went well over the bar, while Triestina tried to break through Trento’s compact defense with short passing plays, but they couldn’t find any openings. The match remained under control for both ‘keepers until almost the very end. However, a late mistake in Triestina’s defense led to Anastasia being brought down in the box. In the second of the six added minutes, Anastasia calmly converted the penalty to put the visitors ahead. This decisive moment sealed the match, sending Trento through to the second round of the Coppa Italia.
