Serie C 2024/25: Triestina-Caldiero Terme postmatch
After Giornata 03 of the 2024/25 Serie C season, where Triestina lost 0-1 at home to Caldiero Terme, Michele Santoni and Idriz Voca spoke to the press.
Santoni:
"We conceded another early goal by giving away space too easily, we need to wake up. Then we started playing, creating over twenty chances between the first and second half. I'm not going to dwell on a clear penalty that could have given us the equalizer at a key moment, and there could have been another one too. But we didn’t score—the ball just wouldn’t go in. I was talking to some of the players, and they’ve never dominated games like in the last two matches, but we still aren’t winning. Honestly, apart from the first six or seven minutes, I don’t know what more to ask from the team in terms of effort and tactical approach. I think any other team that dominated a match like we did would have scored at least one goal. We didn’t, and in the end, that makes the difference. Sooner or later, the ball will have to go in; you can't keep creating this many chances and not score. We just have to keep believing.
You have 70% possession, create 22 chances, and don’t know the result, anyone would say the game was won. Right now, it’s just not happening for us. What matters in football is the result, and in the end, all we can do is keep working. I’d be far more alarmed if we hadn’t shown anything in terms of play, because I’m convinced that sooner or later, this hard work will pay off. At the moment, it's a mix of several factors. You also need a bit of luck, like with that penalty that wasn’t given or all the chances we created. We need an episode that can unlock the team mentally and give us the confidence that we deserve for what we’re producing on the pitch. As for the boos at the end, the result hurts us, and it's only fair that it hurts the fans too. If they didn’t like the performance, that's an opinion we respect."
Voca:
"We fell asleep in the opening minutes, and that can’t happen. After that, we played in their half, but if you don’t score, you can’t expect to win games. The clear penalty after my shot could have changed the game, but we can’t use it as an excuse. We created so much, and with all the chances we had, you have to score at least one or two goals. Conceding early also happened against Clodiense, and the only way to fix this is to stay quiet and work hard to correct the mistakes that end up costing you dearly. Losing like this, after playing in their half for 80 minutes, really hurts, and it’s hard to accept. We have to keep going, work with confidence, and the results will come."
