Serie C 2024/25: Alcione Milano-Triestina postmatch
Following the 1-0 defeat against Alcione Milano, Triestina’s coach Geppino Marino spoke to the press.
Marino:
“It was a match decided by a very questionable incident, which hurts, especially as it’s the third game in a row where we’ve conceded from a set-piece. In a match where we allowed just two shots in 90 minutes. The first half was more of a battle, while in the second half we only conceded a few counterattacks. They found the goal from what was clearly an illegal block, but the referee didn’t spot it. After that, we tried everything to get back into the game, even playing with 4-5 attacking players. Unfortunately, when the match descended into chaos, we couldn’t find the right opportunity. There’s a lot of frustration because the boys are giving everything, and I can’t fault them for anything, but we were unlucky with the key moments today.
From a numerical standpoint, we had a few players with more minutes under their belts today, but towards the end, out of necessity, we had to ask for a bit extra from some. Everyone is giving their all despite some players not fully recovering from their physical issues yet. It’s not easy to play under these circumstances, but the important thing is that they’re showing commitment, and when that’s the case, I can’t criticize them. They’re working incredibly hard during the week, but when you’re impacted by such an obvious situation, it makes things even tougher. It shouldn’t be and won’t be an excuse, though. We need to have the strength to react, turn the match around, and get the result. However, various factors didn’t help us today, including the pitch. The match became very disorganized, and for a team like ours, which relies on technical play, that caused difficulties.”
