Serie C 2024/25: Triestina-Union Codiense postmatch

Following Triestina’s victory over Union Clodiense, coach Attilio Tesser, striker King Udoh, and midfielder Luca Fiordilino spoke to the media.

Attilio Tesser:

“In the first half, we encountered several difficulties, largely due to the opponent’s compact and disciplined approach. They covered the pitch well, stayed tight, and ran a lot. We struggled to play our game, often resorting to long balls and failing to find space in the middle of the field. It was an evenly matched half, with their counterattack and a shot hitting the post, as well as a few situations near their box that we didn’t capitalize on. It was a game that felt destined for a draw; intense, but not particularly good from a technical standpoint.

In the second half, I asked the team to play more football. Fiordilino’s introduction gave us better structure, and I moved El Azrak slightly wider to create numerical superiority. We started strongly, took control of the game, and pushed them back. The goal arrived, and from that moment on, we played good football and dominated the rest of the match.

Fiordilino has only trained twice with us and needs to build his fitness, which will come through games and training. He brings the personality this team needs, and I believe he’ll be a great help. As for his coexistence with Correia, the latter has played as an interior midfielder many times, and I prefer to use him there for now.

The decision to start Attys was based on his excellent work during the week, especially offensively, and the fact that his physical presence was an asset against a strong team. Braima is more of a positional midfielder, while Attys offered something different. On the right defensive flank, we’re in a real emergency. I must commend Jonsson, who is actually a midfielder. With seven midfielders available, he has adapted to playing right-back. His application in training has been exemplary, and he performed very well.

Unfortunately, Germano injured himself yesterday during the final training session while taking a shot. We’ll have a clearer picture on Tuesday, but it could be something serious. We’ll need to address this gap in the squad during the week.

The difference between the first-half and second-half Triestina was a lack of composure and confidence early on. The pressure of the league standings is real; when you know you have to win, it’s a burden that changes the approach from enjoyment to obligation. However, once we started playing, we produced good football. Unlocking the game was key, and from then on, we improved significantly, starting the second half with more intensity and determination.

Regarding Udoh, he’s a dynamic player who excels at attacking the space. He’s proven himself at this level and has always scored goals. He’s an excellent addition, and we aim to utilize his clear strengths effectively.”

King Udoh:

“As a striker, coming on and scoring is always satisfying, so it was a great feeling. But above all, we’re all happy because we started 2025 in the best way possible with these three points. Now, we need to keep going on this path and not stop here.

I’ve only been here for two days, but I’ve already found a group of motivated, supportive players who helped me settle in quickly. It’s a great team, and I’m very happy to be here. When I arrived, I found it surprising that the team was in this position in the table given the quality here. But by working together, I’m sure we’ll climb out of it.

To approach in such a situation, first and foremost, you have to give your all, making yourself available and pulling in the same direction as everyone else to turn results in your favor.

The coach asked me to help the team and give my all, and he gave me tactical instructions. I was fortunate and focused enough to find the goal. I’m a striker who prefers attacking the space, but I can adapt to different situations if needed. However, when given the choice, I like to exploit open spaces.

Scoring under the curva was incredible. A huge rush of adrenaline. It was an amazing feeling.”

Luca Fiordilino:

“My first impressions have been excellent, especially thanks to the victory. After eight months without playing in a league match, it was intense to experience the emotions of the stadium again. I’m very happy for the team because we secured an important result, but given our league position, we can’t be satisfied. We need to look ahead, focusing on the next match, which is now the most important one.

The confidence we displayed on the pitch comes largely from the coach’s instructions. He sends us out knowing exactly what we’ve prepared and need to do. I see teammates eager to work and achieve our goals, and that’s crucial.

Stadio Rocco is incredible. I love it here, and part of my decision to join was to experience these emotions. I needed new motivation, and I chose this opportunity consciously for that reason.

As for my role, I’ve played both as a mezzala and a regista in a midfield three during my career. When we won Serie B with Venezia, I played the entire season as a mezzala, which Zanetti insisted I focus on, and I adapted well, even scoring four goals. I’ve told the coach that I’m at his full disposal; wherever I’m needed, I’ll play without any issues.

My fitness isn’t at its peak yet, but it’s not too far off. I’ve always trained, and I’m grateful to Venezia for providing me with the facilities. I’d like to specifically thank the fitness coach, Sandro Bedin, who worked closely with me. After eight months without matches, managing to play 45 minutes like I did means I’ve trained well.

The coach had told me to be ready for a potential appearance, though I didn’t expect to play an entire half. Still, I’m pleased because I think I helped the team. What I bring is my experience. I understand the situation we’re in, having faced similar circumstances in the past two years. It’s crucial to have positive people ready to guide younger and foreign players. I’m here to help the team, and I’m ready to do so.”
